Working mainly with the moving image, Jade Mortimer performs a staging through the use of props, setting, costume and the acting of the chosen subject or subjects.
The devised and invented elements of Mortimer’s constructed imagery look at the identity of the characters, as we are presented with ensembles that have been acted out.
Jade’s work continues to explore the idea of the multiple self, and is a subject matter that remains to be a crucial aspect of her work. The repetition of the characters physical outward appearance creates an identity and multiplication of the self. It consists of the idea that the multiple is a use of repetition of characters. The individuals are not exactly alike, but their distinctive mode of dress is. Here, the uniformity of the multiple selves combine together to constitute a whole. |
